Crystal River is 27 miles from our farm.  The name says it all.  The swimming and diving are excellent.  Boat rentals are available.  In the winter manatees use Crystal River as a haven.  Sightings are quite common.

The Chassahowitzka River and adjoining National Wildlife Refuge reveal the way Florida was.

The Homosassa River is just 20 miles from the farm.  It is easily explored by pontoon boat from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the springs where Manatees congregate.  Immediately adjacent to the river is the Homosassa Springs State Park with many interesting exhibits including Manatees and other wildlife.

Florida maintains a very delicate balance between growth of population and the wild creatures that were once so plentiful.  This area of Florida has been designated as the Nature Coast by the Governor because so much natural beauty is still present here.
